Place of pilgrimage in the Planegger Holz: Just a short walk away lies the idyllic Augustinian pilgrimage site of Maria Eich (www.maria-eich.de →). Tucked away in the dense oak forest, a special place of tranquillity and reflection awaits you, featuring a picturesque open-air chapel and shaded benches beneath ancient trees – perfect for a few moments of inner peace.

Directions from the hotel: From the Hotel Asemann, follow Bahnhofstraße westwards, crossing the S-Bahn tracks, and continue walking into the Planegger Forest. After a leisurely, flat walk of around 15 to 20 minutes (approx. 1.5 km), you will reach the chapel, set amidst the greenery.

  • Relax in our hotel garden: If you’d simply like to unwind after a day of exploring, our well-tended hotel garden, with its mature trees, offers the perfect retreat. Enjoy the gentle rustling of the leaves and listen to the birdsong.

Planegg and the idyllic Würm Valley offer the ideal starting point for a variety of cycle tours. Whether you’re planning a leisurely ride through the countryside or fancy a more challenging ride, a well-developed network of cycle paths awaits you right on our doorstep.

Two of our favourite routes for your cycling trip:

  • The Würmtal Cycle Route to Lake Starnberg (approx. 20 km): Follow the charming course of the River Würm upstream. This flat route, set in stunning countryside, takes you through shady woods and picturesque villages such as Gauting, right to the northern shore of Lake Starnberg – perfect for a refreshing swim or a break in a beer garden.
  • Culture & Nature – Cycling to Munich-Nymphenburg (approx. 12 km): Enjoy a leisurely ride downstream through the extensive Pasing City Park. The cycle path takes you directly to the imposing Nymphenburg Palace and its Baroque palace gardens, with hardly any junctions and away from motor traffic.

After an action-packed day in the saddle, you can store your bikes safely here at the hotel. The next morning, set off on your next adventure, refreshed and energised by our delicious regional breakfast!

Whether it’s for a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade, a refreshing dip in the summer heat or a picturesque boat trip against the stunning backdrop of the Alps – from Planegg, you can reach Lake Starnberg in no time at all.

Here are some flexible ways to get to the lake:

  • Quick & easy by car: You can drive directly to Starnberg in just under 20 minutes via the nearby A95 motorway or the idyllic country road through the Würm Valley. Once there, you’ll find convenient parking around the railway station and the riverside promenade for your day trip.
  • Travel stress-free without a car using the MVV: Just a few minutes’ walk from our hotel, the S6 S-Bahn line (Planegg station) takes you directly to Starnberg station in just 19 minutes, completely stress-free and without any traffic jams. From there, it’s just a stone’s throw to the lakeside.

Why not combine your trip with a visit to one of the traditional lakeside beer gardens, or hire an electric boat there and then to admire the stately villas from the water!

  • The Deutsches Museum: Situated on its own island in the River Isar, the world’s largest science and technology museum captivates visitors of all ages.   • The joy of reaching the summit at the Herzogstand (Walchensee): The Herzogstand is one of Bavaria’s most historic and beautiful mountains offering spectacular views (even King Ludwig II loved this place). After a good hour’s drive, you’ll reach Walchensee. From there, you can hike along well-maintained paths to the Herzogstandhaus and on to the summit – where you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over the deep-blue Walchensee and the Karwendel Mountains. (Tip: If you prefer a more leisurely pace, take the Herzogstandbahn cable car for the ascent or descent).
  • A spectacular natural spectacle in the Partnachklamm (Garmisch): The Partnachklamm in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also just over 60 minutes’ drive away. A secured footpath takes you deep into a romantic gorge, past roaring torrents, huge rock faces and glacial rapids. A fascinating and easy walk for the whole family.
